Ready Mix Concrete

For my first module, and a proof of concept, I am planning to build a single 5 foot module featuring the Ready Mix Concrete plant that was located between of the Indian Hill District and the CNW La Crosse yard. Featuring only one #6 turnout and a grade crossing for St. Andrew Street, this one should be quick and simple and allow me to demonstrate the building process. While the prototype was a much larger area, this should capture enough of the scene to make it plausible and also add another industry for operations.

Indian Hill District

When I first started planning to build an S Scale module for demonstrating operations at train shows, this was the area I wanted to model. As a Chicago & North Western fan, I wanted something close to home. Thanks to Dennis Weber from the RiverRail group, I was able to gather some useful information on the industries served in the fall of 1968 by the Chicago & North Western.

Downtown Yard

This module is based on the Chicago & North Western yard in downtown La Crosse, WI as it appeared in 1968. The module includes the C&NW Depot, Freight House and team tracks. It is designed as a 20 foot long scene using four 5 foot modules, but could be expanded by adding additional sections in the middle. The prototype used the main line for a switch lead as this yard was a dead end yard.
